History of Lev Yashin
Lev Yashin is considered the greatest goalkeeper in football history. Born on October 22, 1929, in Moscow, Soviet Union, Yashin spent his entire professional football career with Dynamo Moscow.
Nicknamed "The Black Spider" because of his black goalkeeper kit and incredible reflexes, Yashin revolutionized the role of a goalkeeper. He was known for commanding his defense, making spectacular saves, and stopping penalty kicks.
Yashin helped the Soviet Union win the European Nations' Cup in 1960 and represented his country at several FIFA World Cups.
In 1963, he became the only goalkeeper in football history to win the Ballon d'Or, an achievement that remains unmatched.
His influence changed goalkeeping forever, and he is still regarded as the standard by which all great goalkeepers are measured.
